Comment:

 You need Xcode 12.2 and the corresponding command line tools to build
 anything on Big Sur. If you have Xcode installed, then apparently
 `xcodebuild -version` can't find it:

 If you don't have a macOS 11.0 SDK in your command line tools, then they
 are outdated. Due to a bug, the CLTs may not be updated by Software Update
 when they should be: ProblemHotlist#reinstall-clt
