 when it comes to ld64-latest, I update that every once in a while -- the
 trick is it has to / should build all way back to SnowLeopard (it does at
 present) so I always spend some time working on that.

 The only systems that really need ld64-latest are the ones where
 ld64_xcode is too old for the current SDKs we want to build against. That
 is not really happening on any systems right now, but if we want, for
 example, to build against the MacOSX11.0.sdk on Mojave, we might have an
 issue there. I'll likely have to puff up ld64 for something like that.
