 Thanks Ken.  I was able to build and install ddrescue using clang-9.0 but
 I had to uninstall ddrescue first.

 I tried "sudo port clean ddrescue" as you suggested but that not not
 enough.  The build still failed with broken port.
 But after I did "sudo port uninstall ddrescue", I was able to build and
 install ddrescue using "sudo port -v install ddrescue configure.compiler
 =macports-clang-9.0"
