 I got through all of the LLVM / Clang ports, then updated all of the
 non-*GCC* ports. Then, I was able to build mariadb-10.5 straight up, no
 errors. No variants ... so, yes, variants might be important. This also
 might be related to the opportunistic finding / using of various features
 ...
