 I have no idea. Dunno if related, but every now and then I get the warning
 about the Xcode versions not recognized by Macports and I need to
 reinstall the Command Line Tools. Could it be related?

  ld64 @3_3+ld64_xcode (active)

 is indeed installed with the ld64_xcode variant.
