 I (or somebody) would / will have to look into exactly where $xcodeversion
 gets sorted out in base, and see if it can be enhanced to work even when
 Xcode.app can't be found or isn't present.

 As we build with the CLTs preferentially now, $xcodeversion should be
 based on those rather than the Xcode.app anyway, right?
