 I ran into this on one of my 10.7 machines while building gcc-10.2 as
 well. It then did build from a clean slate by deactivating all ports
 first.

 gcc is a bit delicate; on MacPorts we have a bit of a problem specifying
 the assembler, which somewhat random for complicated reasons...I think
 that might be relevant to this.
