 Proxy question: I don't think so. But I did get the DNS server warning
 from 'port' about it incorrectly claiming to know the address of non-
 existant hosts.

 Before changing name servers to one in the list from the "Misbehaving
 Servers" link, curl did incorrectly report success.

 However, I changed my name server setup to use an alternate name server
 and it now shows as your example above, i.e.,:

 Even though that issue existed, it didn't appear to be the issue here - as
 'sudo port -N install git' still fails with the same error (but p5.28
 -mozilla-ca for 'git').
