 there are indeed some very recent changes to the gcc arm64 branch that
 involve switching to using @loader_path on most systems, e.g.

 arm64/commit/65675a9f317f13b72a20869271bcc127fcfb12b0

 It would not be a surprise to find hiccups show up in yhis process.
