 Thanks Ken for highlighting this part of the log.

 It looks like a memory issue relating to the malloc() function.
 I suspect there may not have been enough free RAM when Macports tried to
 compile the libgcc11 port.
 As you know, one often gets very strange error messages when there is not
 enough available RAM when compiling.

 When I get a a chance tomorrow, I will run "sudo port clean libgcc11",
 free up a lot more RAM and try again.
