 Akim, the good news is that the tests now seem to compile with gcc-4.2.
 Beautiful!

 However, regardless of what compiler is used, one of the tests appear to
 fail. Attached are the results, run from macOS 10.13; filename
 `bison-3.7.6-test-10.13.test-suite.log`. Also attached the MacPorts build
 log; filename `bison-3.7.6-test-10.13.macports-main.log.gz`.

 Of note, the tests fail with the same result on both macOS 10.5 (compiled
 with gcc-4.2), as well as on newer releases compiled with a recent Clang.

 And finally, my apologies: I thought I had done all of this
 testing/validation with Bison 3.7.6, but perhaps not? Must be getting old.
