 I have built up to gcc11 on Tiger i386, bootstrapping it with the
 gcc7-bootstrap port I am working on.

 I haven't tried Tiger/Leopard PPC, but I believe it will work as Iain says
 it does.

 When bootstrapping with clang, the i386 builds of all newer gcc versions
 (gcc7+ I think) are broken without this patch:
