 Without doing plenty of in-depth testing of the various dependencies, it's
 difficult to say. So I'm reluctant to make such a change, if there's a
 chance it will fundamentally break existing ports.

 Ultimately, the long-term fix for all of this, involves completely
 segregating all of these foundational ports. (With separate isolated
 subports dedicated to Quartz and X11.)

 So we'll get there. But it's going to take time, as there's a lot involved
 with all of this.
