 Here is the commit where the mariadb developers fixed this problem:

 https://github.com/MariaDB/server/commit/e788738e18bd5cedb21f75b21f902f1bbcc34719

 It landed in mariadb 10.2.38.

 I'm not sure if that is the only change needed.

 The MacPorts mariadb-10.0 and mariadb-10.1 ports may be affected as well.
 If so, we should fix them too.
