 I'll commit a fix shortly. I filed this ticket in 2011 and we now use the
 version from 2012. Either they fixed something by 2012 to make this work,
 or quite possibly I was misled by the fact that this peculiar build system
 still prints build output claiming that it is compiling using `cc`, when
 in fact `cc` is a wrapper script that calls the compiler we specify.
