 OK, so nothing weird in sys.path that could be causing issues. As per
 comment:4, which arch is broken does seem to depend on the hardware or at
 least the build_arch, even though a universal binary should be
 functionally the same in either case. If you install from a binary
 archive, it may well have been built on a system different to yours.
