 Ok, so python crashed, and the reason was:

 The same problem was reported on the mailing list, also on Monterey
 running on an Apple Silicon Mac: https://lists.macports.org/pipermail
 /macports-users/2021-December/050637.html

 As I told Stephen, it does not sound like a MacPorts-specific problem;
 please work with the developers of the affected software (gtk?) to find
 the solution.

 I'm going to close this now since we've solved the original problems you
 had with virt-manager.
