 for newer gcc versions, we need to fix two things.

 Build a real gcc cross compiler that puts out a new arch, eg arm64 while
 running on Intel. That would get us going, using the muniversal PG. We
 have some other gcc cross-compilers in MP we could use for inspiration.

 Then, tweak driverdriver.c to again work like Apple's gcc fork did, and
 like clang does now, allowing multiple arch flags. Then we'd have to use
 the muniversal PG rarely, like we do now.

 Both doable, rather fun, projects that just need an encouraged champion.
