 As I reported 17 months ago, the referenced fix did not work.

 But I could not tell you if it works now, as approximately 16 months ago,
 I completely uninstalled macports and opted to install octave via
 homebrew, which solved the problem for me personally. As far as I am
 concerned this can be closed.
