 what we will have to do, if we want this to work long term, is to do it
 properly.

 Build against MacOS10.14.sdk or some such, and use the correct Apple
 {{{__availability}}} setups in the actual code, with fallbacks where
 needed.

 Upstream would (possibly) accept that.
