 We'll see. As long as the software is (completely) open source it's always
 going to be possible to disable any parts of the code that phone home (see
 also https://github.com/ssight/free-aud). I guess a serious fork will be
 available by the time cleaning the code is no longer feasible.

 It's sad that Audacity was for sale, but for now the current version of
 the port is sufficiently far behind the newest release that you have
 nothing to fear. Remember that this is old and quite stable software.
 Recent versions not yet in MacPorts introduced a new project format that
 does have some advantages but that change landed well before the sale.
