 for sure clang should be using ld64-97 here...not sure at this instant why
 it isn't. It does on intel...

 however clang/llvm can't put out reliable darwin ppc code at present, even
 with the right linker.

 There are some projects underway to try to come up with a version of
 clang/llvm for ppc that will someday work, but at this time they are
 incomplete.

 The only reliable compilers for ppc/ppc64 Darwin at present are from gcc
 (all versions are OK).
