 I tested the speck command sequence you suggest, but the package fails to
 complete the configure phase:

 The patch provided by tomio-arisaka above resolves the immediate
 installation problem.

 Would you be willing to accept and apply tomio-arisaka's patch to the
 Portfile to resolve this ticket?
