 Well, when using MacPorts target compilers, we can publish binaries. And
 that provides a better user experience.

 As for the complexity, sometimes it's necessary. For example, can you trim
 the various LLVM-related ports down to 20 lines - without the help of a
 portgroup - and without losing any of the functionality provided today?

 That's a rhetorical question, and doesn't need an answer.

 Regardless, I'd still like to help if possible. But it would help to keep
 the discussion focused on the issue, and not on the portfile contents.
