 Actually, there is something funny about that commit. Where did all this
 stuff come from?

 and what I put here [59927#comment:32] suggests I got it to work with
 apple-gcc42, and yet there was a commit two months later to enable C11?

 It's all a bit strange. Probably worth a second look.
