 Thank you, i0ntempest, and sorry for my slowness in communication.

 I do remember something about libboost being part of the failed upgrade I
 tried to do initially, so that might be related. I still get an error when
 I try to install qBittorrent after a selfupdate, though. It feels like
 it's a little different, though... Here's the shell output — I'll attach
 the log to the OP:

 Perhaps I should try to remove boost and see if that makes any difference?
 Currently, I have:
 # port installed boost
 The following ports are currently installed:
   boost @1.71.0_3+no_single+no_static+python38
   boost @1.71.0_4+no_single+no_static+python38 (active)

 I'll give it a shot and report back.
