 Homebrew, Ubuntu,and many other package managers have a command for the
 user to "pin" the port themselves to stop upgrades.

 (I use that myself on Ubuntu to stop kernel updates on a certain 2006
 MacBookPro that is a bit touchy with kernels).

 On MP, we have to manually do it, in the portfile, which suits our
 purposes (or use a Local Repository, which many of us do use).
