 Sounds like this might be related to a couple of upstream issues:

 https://github.com/opendnssec/SoftHSMv2/issues/635

 A fix (and a fix for the fix) was merged in May 2020 but there hasn't been
 a release since April of that year.

 I've poked upstream about whether a new release is likely (it was last
 discussed in April).
