 it seems there are several dependencies that need to be taken care of;
 there was [https://github.com/macports/macports-ports/pull/10972 a PR] a
 while back but the submitted didn't express interest in taking care of the
 review comments and finishing it up. Perhaps you can take that as a
 starting point though to start fixing this yourself, as the port has no
 maintainer.
