 PortGroups etc.


 Fixing pandoc to build arm64 with cabal arm64 using the ghc arm64 should
 be a < 5 minute project. It is trivial to do (basically just copy the
 homebrew formula -- you could do it very quickly manually in fact).

 But the PortGroups and extensive tooling sinks you and it becomes
 unthinkable. This issue has been growing exponentially in MacPorts over
 the past few years, and shows no signs of turning back towards reason
 (IMHO, YMMV, etc).

 Re: the install issues:

 For all we know they have been fixed. Somebody just needs to test if the
 fix has worked or not.

 But that just gets you back to what we had already working great last year
 (installing the Intel binary on arm64) -- which, if we had just left my
 workaround in place from last year, would still be happening transparently
 (admittedly not purely, but does anyone really deeply care about that for
 one or two ports like pandoc) and we would not have this ticket :>

 It does make me wonder why my workaround was removed by you last March,
 resulting in all this. But I digress.
