Comment:

 The way that xattrs is invoked in the libtool port was recently changed
 for compatibility with macOS Monterey Beta, although I think the problem
 was solved in a later beta and does not exist in the final release, so
 perhaps the change that was made can be reverted, or another solution can
 be found.
