 Methinks there is something wrong in glib2, on tiger at least. This should
 not be happening:

 GLib (gthread-posix.c): Unexpected error from C library during
 'pthread_setspecific': Invalid argument.
 }}}
 and seems possibly to be the root of all further evil.
