 Thanks Ken.  I am using the standard installation prefix -- /opt/local.
 So that is not the issue.  But then I checked macports.conf.  In the past,
 I must have set "buildfromsource" to "always".  I will need to change it
 to "ifneeded" if I want prebuilt binaries to be downloaded.
