 Thanks for the additional context; it's too bad Thomas's patches didn't
 live up to the hype.

 I opened a quick PR to disable Altivec on G3s if you want to take a look:
 https://github.com/kencu/TigerPorts/pull/12

 Building now but I am optimistic.
