 more specifically, multilib is enabled by default when building gcc on
 darwin.

 on the non-universal build of gcc on macports, multilib is disabled.

 for the universal build of gcc on macports that configure arg to disable
 multilib is removed, and so the default behavior with multilib enabled is
 allowed:
