That was going to be precisely the reasoning I would cite for why apple-
gcc42 should be used. It is the default MacPorts compiler on Tiger and
Leopard and Snow Leopard. It comes with Xcode on Leopard and Snow Leopard.
Why require the user to install another compiler port when apple-gcc42
will do?

You propose that `port` should behave differently depending on what you
already have installed? No. See ReproducibleBuilds.
