 Hey Renee, I considered that, but didn't want to over-complicate this:
 Ultimately we need to stop the bleeding ASAP, as a not-insignificant
 number of dependent builds have been blocked due to this issue. (In
 addition to user frustration, due to a foundational port failing to build
 for 10.12 and earlier.)

 Plus it's a simple matter of time, as my professional work
 responsibilities limit my MacPorts-related time during the day.

 Another consideration, is that we're only reverting a minor release bump.
 If it was a major release, that would change the equation.

 Does that make sense?
