Comment:

 it does look like your local environment is a bit messed up. That’s one of
 the reason we recommend to stick with one way of installing packages. I
 suspect if you start from a clean environment (remove everything installed
 through “pip” and/or installed as user and have MacPorts take care of it,
 it will all work.
