 Per some instructions in comment:2:issue:59003, try the following:

 * Logout and login again
 * Navigate to folder MacPorts, contained within Applications. There should
 be an app named X11; open that. (I'm not sure whether you have to run X11
 manually each time, but let's run it for this test.)
 * Keep X11 running in the background
 * From the MacPorts folder, open Darktable

 Let me know if that works. If not, there are some additional things we can
 try.
