 Discussion at https://github.com/XQuartz/XQuartz/issues/31 suggests
 XQuartz 2.8.3_rc1 plus setting defaults write org.xquartz.X11
 enable_render_extension 0 might fix the problem (or might make things
 cripplingly slow).  I can (barely) read Gnucash through this, but it's
 quite painful and I'd love to see a fix.  What can I do to help?
