 On a hunch, I tried installing MyPaint again on my MacBook1,1, i386
 "Yonah" CoreDuo. This time it installed Python39 as a prerequisite and
 built and installed completely. All good, so far.
 When I tried to launch it, MyPaint apparently called for Python38 and
 errored out on the numpy problem again.
 This is why I hate Python. I'm attaching the Bash log from the point of
 the successful install.
