 I'm sorry to see the legacysupport get to the point of being considered
 overkill... I always meant it to be transparently lightweight, and the
 first goto for stuff like this.

 Compilers get ever tighter.

 IMHO burdening thousands of upstreams with legacy support nuances for old
 macOS versions is not very fair or realistic, although I know others may
 feel differently about where the burden should be placed.
