New description:
I have an installation of mariadb-10.6-server and its client. I was using
it heavily all morning, but when I came back from lunch, the server had
died. I tried sudo port unload mariadb-10.6-server followed by the related
load command. The message on the console said it was loaded, but ps aux
did not show mysqld running.
In troubleshooting, the first step was to look at the logs. I don't know
where the logs are. There is nothing I saw in the documentation showing
where the logs are. There is no log in either /var/log, /var/log/msyql.,
or /opt/local/var/db/mariadb-10.2.
I decided the only thing I could do was to reinstall the port for
mariadb-10.6-server. After doing that, fortunately it is working again.
Seems kind of odd though that a machine that was just left on its own for
an hour should have mariadb die, and refuse to start.
So I am requesting info on where to look for logs, and anything else that
might be useful in such a weird situation. I have not had this issue
before and been using mariadb since 10.2.
But it would really help if I knew where to find the log files. There
