10.5.8 (ppc), but the most recent update to coreutils results in the
repeated "confdir" paths until we surpass path length limits. Attached is
a log of the build process for coreutils @9.1_0 on the system in question.
As a test, you might want to try installing `coreutils-devel`. While the
two are currently identical, the latter did build successfully for me on
10.5 PPC back a month ago. (That's probably just a fluke, particularly if
all of this is caused by a race condition. But still worth a try!)
