Comment:

 A small update for this ticket. I decided to completely reinstall my
 system and switched to 10.5.9 Sorbet Leopard. Macports does compile
 everything without any visible errors, but the end result is the same; the
 client just can't connect to any of my servers.

 During the installation I noticed that Macports installed Perl 5.34
 (instead of 5.28) which could be the issue, but I have no idea if it's
 possible to reinstall irssi with Perl version 5.28.
