 Thank you @ryandesign for looking into this particular issue.  Inasmuch as
 you have determined that the issue #65580 is duplicative, I thought it
 would be helpful to post the workaround for anyone who comes searching for
 this particular thread in the future -- i.e., temporarily disable
 sandboxing to get the port installed and then renable it thereafter:

 The following workaround (which is not a fix of the underlying issue) was
 obtained from an unrelated thread / ticket for a different port:

 "... you can disable sandboxing entirely as a temporary workaround by
 adding `sandbox_enable no` to your `macports.conf`. Since sandboxing is a
 good thing in general, you should remember to change it back once a fix is
 released."
