 Just tested on Monterey, to ensure we're comparing apples-to-apples. And
 I'm seeing the crash there too, but only after the second run. (In other
 words, only after the app has created a config file.)

 So I'm a bit surprised that a config isn't being created for you, as the
 app creates/saves that on exit.

 Regardless, to better understand what's happening, can you install
 CherryTree with `+quartz+debug`?

 Then run the app, and reproduce the crash. When the macOS error dialog is
 displayed, click "Report," and copy the stack trace for thread zero. Then
 paste that text here.
