 After fielding two `cctools`-related tickets in past few weeks, I strongly
 support eliminating the variants once and for all.

 And please feel free to loop me in on any ongoing conversations: Given
 that this is a support nightmare - and one that can easily be eliminated -
 I will certainly be sharing my opinion!
