 The above linker issues might also be related to the absolutely ancient
 linker being used. Certainly upstream never tests something this old.

 I use ld64-450 on 10.6.8, and I've never seen errors like that with
 clang-13 or clang-14, but it could just be coincidence.

 Perhaps the next line of effort might most effectively be to get that
 bootstrapping sorted out to have all the Intel systems 10.6+ use at least
 ld64-450 as a linker (or newer if possible).
