 The fix did not include [comment:5 my suggestion above].

 And we still don't know: why do they need to check the zlib version this
 strictly? Is there an upstream bug report or other explanation from
 upstream? If zlib developers think zlib 1.3 is ABI-compatible with
 previous versions, why are the developers of texlive-bin second-guessing
 that?
